Moroccan Mint Tea
I’m not especially partial to mint teas. But this Moroccan Mint Green Tea is so smooth, so bold and flavorful that I can’t even explain it. The mint flavor doesn’t overpower the drink, so you don’t ever feel like you’re drinking a cup of spearmint gum. Rather, it refreshes in a way that few green teas do. I tend to like blacks, bold greens and occasionally a white tea to mix it up. But this tea is one of those “I’ll try it to see if I like it” types that managed to surprise me in the best way.

Such a tasty tea. Go get some. It doesn’t taste strongly like lapsang souchong, so don’t be deterred by that at all. It’s much tastier, bolder and more flavorful than its components.
Russian Caravan is a blend of oolong, keemun, and lapsang souchong teas, all produced from Camellia sinensis[1] the Chinese tea plant. It is described as an aromatic and full-bodied tea with a sweet, malty taste. Although a Chinese tea,[2] its name originates from the 18th century camel caravans that facilitated the transcontinental tea trade from tea-producing areas (namely India, Ceylon and China) to Europe via Russia. “It took at least half a year to make the six-thousand-mile journey from the Chinese border to Russia, and the voyage was harsh.”[3] Some varieties do not include lapsang souchong, thus having a less smoky flavor.[4]

The travel mug I have, which is your typical stainless interior, fit in your car beverage holder type, allows me to set my infuser in it without the lid to brew my tea. When it’s done brewing, I remove the infuser, put the lid on, and go. I hope that makes sense.

For generations, an elevated appreciation for tea was largely the domain of older Chinese immigrants who had grown up with fine teas. During the height of Chinese immigration into the San Gabriel Valley 20 years ago, the demand supported several high-end Chinese tea shops, including one run by the family of the oldest tea company in Taipei.
Now a new generation of connoisseurs of Chinese tea is emerging. For many, the fascination with tea comes not from growing up with it. Rather, they are newcomers to the culture of the leaf, learning about it as outsiders.
